I have seen this tag going around the blogger world, and have finally decided to try it out.
- - -
1. What’s your word count?
Currently 'tis exactly 1,541, but I plan on changing that today.
2. How long until you finish?
I have not the faintest idea!
3. If you have finished, how long did it take you?
unfortunately I haven't finished.
4. Do you have an outline?
Yes, but it changes all the time
5. Do you have a plot?
I'm coming to realize, to my alarm, that I don't have one, or at lest not much of one.
6. How many words do you typically write a day?
It depends on what type of scene I am typing. If it is a fight, alot (never counted them) and if it is a slow boring scene, sometimes I'm lucky if I make it to ten.
7. What was your greatest word count in one day?
Not a clue!?!?! the last one I COUNTED, was 543, but I am sure I've done more that that.
8. What was your least impressive word count in one day?
Three words.
9. What inspired you to write?
"If I don't write to empty my mind, I go mad."- Lord Byron.
I first found out that I loved writing when I was around 10, when my grandma asked my brother Dakota and I to write a short story for a homeschool project. I have been writing ever since.
10. Does your novel/story have a theme song?
Hmmm, I've never really thought about that before, it would be kind of fun!
11. Assign each of your major characters a theme song.
Maybe I will, if I ever manage to find the time to do it.
12. Which character is most like you?
Well. the character that is me, Arries, is most like me.
13. Which character would you most likely be friends with?
Evelyn, my main character. Her fiery personality would do well with my quiet, watchful one.
14. Do you have a Gary-Stu or Mary Sue character?
Huh????
15. Who is your favorite character in your novel?
I couldn't pick a favorite to save my life! I LOVE them all! (yes, even my bad guys).
16. Have your characters ever done something completely unexpected?
No, I don't believe they have. This must be remedied!
17. Have you based any of your novel directly on personal experiences?
Most certainly.
18. Do you believe in plot bunnies?
YES! They forever torment me!
19. Is there magic in your novel/story?
Not a bit, unless elves and dragons are magical.
20. Are any holidays celebrated in your novel/story?
No holidays, but there is a coronation and two weddings in the end.
21. Does anyone die?
Does anyone die? What kind of question is that? I would be a disgrace to all writers and have to hide in shame for the rest of my life if no one died. It is a story of treason, treachery and good eventually overcoming, OF COURSE PEOPLE DIE!!!
22. How many cups of coffee/tea have you consumed during your writing experience?
Far too many to count! You must have a cup of tea, coffee, or hot chocolate if you are writing on a cold day!
23. What is the latest you have stayed up writing?
I am not supposed to to stay up past 10:30, but I stay up until exactly then quite often!
24. What is the best line?Let's go with the opening line, because I love mine, and it sets the mood for the entire story. "The day had been dark and threatening, and now, a few hours past noon, the storm broke with a tremendous crash of thunder. In just a few moments torrents of water began flowing through the now deserted streets of the small coastal town of Radcliff. The usually busy market in the town center was now strangely still. Not a sound could be heard, save the rain splattering on the rooftops and in the barren streets. Suddenly, above the mournful howl of the wind, a sound could be heard. Hoofbeats."
25. What is the worst line?Far too many to even bother mentioning.
26. Have you dreamed about your novel/story or its characters?
Oh yes. Many times! I have come up with some of my best scenes that way.
27. Does your novel rely heavily on allegory?
Nope.
28. Summarize your novel/story in under fifteen words.
Oh dear. *sighs*. Ok, here it goes, "A girls father is captured. Girl sets out to find him and saves the kingdom."
29. Do you love all your characters?
Yes, even my bad guys, though Jon does get anoying sometimes, and Skree can be very crabby.
30. Have you done something sadistic or cruel to your characters specifically to increase your word count?
Absolutely! In fact, I just recently decided to add a scene where Atokad and Soryn (who hate each other) get captured and put in a gladiator fight!
31. What was the last thing your main character ate?
uh... a bowl of clam chowder, a piece of freshly baked bread and a mug of hot apple cider at a local tavern.
32. Describe your main character in three words.
Fiery, strong, intelligent.
33. What would your antagonist dress up as for Halloween?
He would simply be himself for halloween. His sly, charming self and he would charm all of the children trick or treating at his door into coming in, with his easy smile ans soft voice. It would be the last the parents would see of their children until several years later when they see them in his army.
34. Does anyone in your story go to a place of worship?
I'm not certain, I have considered it, but have not made up my mind.
35. How many romantic relationships take place in your novel/story?
There are three, but they are NOT in ANY WAY the sentimental, gushy talks under the moon, ect. The first one doesn't even go through, it was all a scam.
36. Are there any explosions in your novel/story?
Oh YES!!! Soryn and Atokad (now friends) blow up an assassin stronghold as part of the diversion for their escape!
37. Is there an apocalypse in your novel/story?
Nope.
38. Does your novel take place in a post-apocalyptic world?
No.
39. Are there zombies, vampires or werewolves in your novel/story?
Absolutely NOT! the worst I have is Dragons. The last two creatures remind me of a certain disgrace to storydom that I would rather be chased by a dragon through a tar pit than to have my story resemble in any way.
40. Are there witches, wizards or mythological creatures/figures in your novel/story?
As I said before, the most mythological creatures I have are Dragons, Dwarves, and Elves.
41. Is anyone reincarnated?
No.
42. Is anyone physically ailed?
Uh, no... not yet anyways.
43. Is anyone mentally ill?
No.
44. Does anyone have swine flu?
No. Silly question. >_>
45. Who has pets in your novel and what are they?
Everyone of course has their horses, and then Falcon, (my antagonist) has a black cat.
46. Are there angels, demons, or any religious references/figures in your novel/story?
No.
47. How about political figures?
Not really.
48. Is there incessant drinking?
No.
49. Are there board games? If so, which ones?
NO!
50. Are there any dream sequences?
No. >_>
51. Is there humor?
I hope.
52. Is there tragedy?
YES! What would a story be without tragedy?!?!?!
53. Does anyone have a temper tantrum?
Perhaps Falcon when he finds out that Brogan has escaped with prince Ragnar. (it is very unlike him to loose his temper, but he does this once.)
54. How many characters end up single at the end of your novel/story?
Too many to count.
55. Is anyone in your novel/story adopted?
No, not so far.
56. Does anyone in your novel/story wear glasses?
No, they didn't have glasses in the medieval days.
57. Has your novel/story provided insight about your life?
No. Not as of yet.
58. Your personality?
A bit.
59. Has your novel/story inspired anyone?
LOL, probably not.
60. How many people have asked to read your novel/story?
Only my Brother Dakota, my Dad, and my best friend. No one else hardly even knows it exists because I don't talk about it to anyone.
61. Have you drawn any of your characters?
Tried; failed. Miserably.
62. Has anyone drawn your characters for you?
No.
63. Does anyone vomit in your novel/story?
I'm seriously considering it. Sea sickness and all that!
64. Does anyone bleed in your novel/story?
Really, if people die, of course they bleed. I also have bleeding characters that don't die.
65. Do any of your characters watch TV?
NO, NO, NO!!!
66. What size shoe does your main character wear?
I don't care and neither should you. ;-)
67. Do any of the characters in your novel/story use a computer?
In the medieval days?!?!? You've got to be kidding me.
68. How would you react if your novel/story was erased entirely?
Run through the house screaming and crying hystericaly. I probably wouldn't re-write it for another few years. Or if I did, it would be completely different.
69. Did you cry at killing off any of your characters? No, though I was very sad.
70. Did you cheer when killing off one of your characters?
Uh... no. I've never hated any of them that badly.
71. What advice would you give to a fellow writer?
I tell my sister all the time If you would be able to write a successful story you must read, read, read.
72. Describe your ending in three words.
Peace is restored.
73. Are there any love triangles, squares, hexagons, etc.?
No. *shudders*
74. On a scale of 1-10 (1 being the least stressful, 10 being the most) how does your stress rank?
About my story, at this moment? Around 3.
75. Was it worth it?The tag? Maybe. It's helped me reevaluate my story. The story? I sure hope so!
Well, that was alot of fun! I look forward to see what everyone else's answers are!

The Reason I Write
"Everybody has a secret world inside of them. All of the people of the world, I mean everybody. No matter how dull and boring they are on the outside, inside them they've all got unimaginable, magnificent, wonderful, stupid, amazing worlds. Not just one world. Hundreds of them. Thousands maybe."

My Busy Life
Alas, what a busy life is mine. I have been kept very busy at home of late; mostly just babysitting and helping out with our family website. Our family is in the process of opening up a bookstore in this western little town of Madras where we live. Nothing so civilized as a bookstore has yet dared to show it's face here. I cannot think of a nobler cause, than to bring the beauty and wonders of books into this uncivilized land... Ok, ok, so I'm feeling a little weird right now, but that's alright... right?
I have also begun to re-write the first chapter of my story. I didn't really like the way it turned out the first time. Mainly I didn't like my main character; my chapter portrayed her alot more... childish, than I wanted her. It was causing me to not like my story because I didn't like my main character, so I changed it. I also changed where she lives, she now lives in a sea port on the coast instead of a quiet little valley in the middle of nowhere. I am now excited about writing, which is nice. It's been a looooong time since I was eager to write!

A Tribute to a Great Man
I am sure many of you are already aware of the passing of Brian Jacques, the beloved author of Redwall. I just learned of it today and am completely heartbroken.
He died February 5th of a heart attack at age 71.
About Brian Jacques
"A mouse is small and can go unnoticed: but there is no limit to what a brave heart and a fearless spirit can achieve." | |
Brian being conferred as an honorary fellow of Liverpool's John Moores University |
Early Life
Brian Jacques (pronounced 'jakes') was born in Liverpool, England on June 15th, 1939. Along with forty percent of the population of Liverpool, his ancestral roots are in Ireland, County Cork to be exact.Brian grew up in the area around the Liverpool docks, where he attended St. John's School, an inner city school featuring a playground on its roof. At the age of ten, his very first day at St. John's foreshadowed his future career as an author; given an assignment to write a story about animals, he wrote a short story about a bird who cleaned a crocodile's teeth. Brian's teacher could not, and would not believe that a ten year old could write so well. When young Brian refused to falsely say that he had copied the story, he was caned as "a liar". He had always loved to write, but it was only then that he realized he had a talent for it.
My favourite teacher was Mr. Austin Thomas. He looked like Lee Marvin. Big Man. A Captain in World War II. He came to school on a big push bike with the haversack on back. He was a man's man. Always fair. I was fourteen at the time when Mr. Thomas introduced the class to poetry and Greek literature. It was because of him, I saved seven shillings and sixpence to buy The Iliad and The Odyssey at this dusty used book shop.
- Daniel Defoe
- Sir Henry Rider Haggard
- Arthur Conan Doyle
- Sir Thomas Malory
- Robert Michael Ballantyne
- Robert Louis Stevenson
- Edgar Rice Burroughs
- Kenneth Grahame
After Brian finished school at fifteen, he set out to find adventure as a merchant seaman. He travelled to many far away ports, including New York, Valparaiso, San Francisco, and Yokohama. Tiring of the lonely life of a sailor, he returned to Liverpool where he worked as a railway fireman, a longshoreman, a long-distance truck driver, a bus driver, a boxer, a bobby (Police Constable 216D), a postmaster, and a stand-up comic.
During the sixties, when The Beatles put the world spotlight on Liverpool, he and six others including his two brothers, formed a folksinging group known as The Liverpool Fishermen. Both his brothers emigrated to New Zealand. His older brother, Tony, a carpenter, lived there with his children and grandchildren, until 1998 when he passed away. His younger brother, Jimmy, returned to Britain after twelve years. He is married to Sandra, and has twin sons, Paul and Sean.
Mr. Jacques has written both poetry and music, but he began his writing career in earnest as a playwright. His three stage plays Brown Bitter, Wet Nellies, and Scouse have been performed at the Everyman Theatre. "Scouse" is a slang term for someone from Liverpool, named after the cheap, nearly meatless stew that is a staple in the traditional Liverpool working man's diet.
The Start of Redwall
Brian wrote Redwall for the children at the Royal Wavertree School for the Blind in Liverpool, where as a truck driver, he delivered milk. Because of the nature of his first audience, he made his style of writing as descriptive as possible, painting pictures with words so that the schoolchildren could see them in their imaginations. He remains a patron of the school to this day.Jacques' writing gained acclaim when his childhood English teacher, Alan Durband, read Redwall, and showed it to a publisher without telling Brian. This event led to a contract for the first five books in the Redwall series, and a dedication to Alan in the front of several Redwall books.
Brian Jacques Today
Brian lives in Liverpool, as do his two grown sons: Marc, a carpenter and bricklayer, and David, a professor of Art and a muralist. David Jacques' work can be seen in Children's hospitals, soccer stadiums, and trade union offices as far away as Germany, Mexico, and Chile (not to mention Brian's photo featured in most of his books).Brian also ran a weekly radio show on BBC Radio Merseyside, until October 2006, where he shared his comedy and wit, and played his favourites from the world of opera - he is a veritable expert on The Three Tenors.
Mr. Jacques enjoys walking his dog 'Teddy', a white West Highland Terrier, and completing crossword puzzles. When there's time he reads the works of Mario Puzo, Damon Runyon, Richard Condon, Larry McMurty, and P.G. Wodehouse. He's also been known to cook an impressive version of his favourite dish, spaghetti and meatballs.

The Warrior
Whilst old ones grow older,
And cowards will shrink.
As the bold grow bolder.
Courage may blossom in quiet hearts,
For who can tell where bravery starts?
Truth is a song, oft lying unsung,
Some mother bird, protecting her young,
Those who lay down their lives for
Friends,
The echo rolls onward, it seldom ends.
Who never turned and ran, but stayed?
This is a warrior born, not made!
Living in peace, aye many a season,
Calm in life and sound in reason,
‘Till evil arrives, a wicked horde,
Driving a warrior to pick up his sword,
The echo rings then, straight and
Fair,
Justice is with us, beware. Beware!

Dream
You have to title the post with the first word you pick out in the crossword puzzle! Pass it on!
So, since I had to name my post dream, I thought I would give a few definitions for the word Dream.
1. A series of mental images and emotions occurring during sleep; "I had a dream about you last night".[Wordnet]
2. Imaginative thoughts indulged in while awake; "he lives in a dream that has nothing to do with reality".[Wordnet]
3. A cherished desire.[Wordnet]
4. A fantastic but vain hope (from fantasies induced by the opium pipe); "I have this pipe dream about being emperor of the universe".[Wordnet]
5. A state of mind characterized by abstraction and release from reality; "he went about his work as if in a dream".[Wordnet]
6. Someone or something wonderful; "this dessert is a dream".[Wordnet]
7. The thoughts, or series of thoughts, or imaginary transactions, which occupy the mind during sleep; a sleeping vision.[Websters]
8. A visionary scheme; a wild conceit; an idle fancy; a vagary; a revery; -- in this sense, applied to an imaginary or anticipated state of happiness; as, a dream of bliss; the dream of his youth.[Websters].
Us authors are the best of dreamers! When we write, we get to live our dreams. Your characters are, and get to experience all of your wildest dreams. Isn't it wonderful!!!

Sir James
I have recently been watching to see how much other bloggers revile about their stories on their blogs and have come to a decision. I will share things that are not part of my story plot, such as characters, and maybe even small parts of my story that don't revile anything important.
With that said, here is.....
Sir James!
With that said, here is.....
Sir James!
(Actor - Jeremy Irons)
Age - 47
Description - Tall and lean. He is not broad as most warriors, but is still just as lethal. Badly cut gray hair that stands slightly on end, and a grizzled gray beard, framing a rather stern mouth. His eyes are dark brown, steady and unflinching. Despite his age, there is a spring in his step, and a powerful energy about him that speaks of his many hours on the practice field.
Character - Strong, quiet & wise
Personality - Grim, serious, and can often appear grumpy
Family Background - (Haven't figured that out yet)
Spouse - He had a wife when he was much younger, but she died (I have yet to figure out how)
Children - Had a daughter (died the same time as wife)
Place in story Plot - He is Evelyn (my main character's) mentor. He is also a former knight, now in exile for refusing to bow to a usurper King.
I love Sir James. For those of you who have read the Ranger's Apprentice series By John Flanagan, you can simply imagine him with the same personality as Halt. Grim but lovable.

A late Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas everyone! I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas, I sure did! Instead of the traditional Christmas meal, we made a homemade Mexican meal, (my dad's favorite), with Enchiladas, pork Verde, Salsa, and tamales (the only thing not homemade). I got a BEAUTIFUL tea set from my mom that has 4 cups and 4 plates and a teapot. Well, I need to go, one of our family traditions is that we do a detailed houseclean and get rid of a whole bunch of stuff every year right after Christmas, so I need to go help with that.

2 tags from Eldarwen!
I got tagged by Eldarwen!
Here we go!

two-- What are three things that you can grab from where you're sitting? A brown coffee cup with an orange maple leaf on it, A baseball cap with our website logo on it, and my camera.
three-- What is something that you've been collecting since you were really young...and sometimes think to yourself 'hm...I'm kind of outgrown for this', but just can't stop? I have been collecting poetry for as long as I can remember, but I don't necessarily think I am too old for that. Hmm, I collect books like crazy, but you can never get too old for books. Yikes, this is a hard one! Ok, I got it, up untill a few years ago I still liked to collect stuffed animals, I have them all packed away now.

four-- Something that you absolutely...DISLIKE that everyone else seems to love: Green olives!!! DIS-GUS-TING!

five-- What was the last movie you watched? The Musketeer
It is a wonderful movie and is mostly clean, (it only has a scene in it when someone is trying to spy on Francisca bathing, but there is boards in the way).
seven-- What is your favorite meal to cook? How can I choose a favorite!!! I LOVE to cook, so almost every meal is my favorite! Lets see, I am really good at baked chicken and mashed potatoes, but the easiest recipe I know it spaghetti, and I love easy recipes!
Now for the next one!
one-- What time do you wake up each morning? Why? Our family wakes up at five every morning except Saturday. As my dad say's:
"Early to bed, Early to rise,
Makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise."
two-- You've just woken up, and you're thirsty. You fix yourself a glass of.... Water, then coffee
four-- How many siblings do you have? What are their names and ages (if you're allowed to share)? Dakota is 16, going on 17 in November, ShawNee is 12, Kiowa is 10, Sequoia is 9, and Ukiyah is 1.

six-- What's the silliest thing you've ever done with your siblings, cousins or any other family member? Would you do it again if you could? I don't know??? Our family is rather serious, probably the silliest thing we'v done is when Dakota and I will spend forever quoting a whole movie.
seven-- What's your favorite game to play with your friends? Our friends have a bunch of big flat rocks on their property, so one of our favorite games to play at their house is rock tag, everyone has to stay on the rocks and not get tagged.
eight-- If you could meet one person in the whole wide world (who's currently alive), who would it be? Why would you want to meet that person? What would you say to them? Probably Peter Jackson, IDK, I'v never really thought about it. I would tell him what a good job he did on the LOTR, and that I want him to do the Hobbit!
nine-- If you could meet one person in the whole wide world (from the past), who would it be? Why would you want to meet that person? What would you say to them? Oh, how could you ask me that!!! HOW COULD YOU!!!! Only one person!?!?! IMPOSSIBLE!!!! Who? William Wallace, Elizabeth 1, Thomas Jefferson, Robert the Bruce, George Washington? I could go on forever! If I could only choose ONE, than I suppose it would be.... Elizabeth 1. She has always been one of my favorites.
eleven-- "God cares about the little things of life." Do you agree? Can you give specific examples of ways that God has shown Himself in the little things of your life? Yeah! I totaly agree! I can't exactly pin point any examples from my life, but I have seen it in other people's life's. I am always reading all kinds of books on missionary's and stuff and it's hard to miss.
twelve-- Is there a particular Bible verse that has stood out to you recently? Which verse and why? Colossians 3:23, because that means that we cant do any job only half way, unless that is the way you would do it for Jesus, and if He asked you to do something, you would most likely do it with a smile, right?
thirteen-- Your parents are out for the day, leaving you home alone (with your siblings). Then, your grandmother from out of state calls and says she'll be there in fifteen minutes. (She wasn't supposed to come until tomorrow) What do you do? Welcome them in, offer tea, and talk to them until mum and dad return.
fourteen-- Have you ever traveled out of country? Why did you go? No, I haven't. But I most certainly will someday!!! Preferably to Europe or Africa or India, or... :D
fifteen-- What sport do you play and what do you enjoy about it? I don't play sports, nor do I have even the slightest interest in them.
sixteen-- Do you like cats or dogs better? If neither, specify: CATS!!!! Cats Rule, Dogs drool!
eighteen-- Cowboy hat or prairie bonnet? Cowboy hat. Not one of the big goofy ones though, a cute one, preferably made of straw.
nineteen-- Flipflops or tennis shoes? Flipflops, totally! :D
twenty-- Do you like my (Bleah Briann's) blog? Yes, I do!
Well, that's all for today folks!

Yah, I know...
I should post more often, yes, I know, I know. Usually when winter comes around things start slowing down a little bit. Not this year!!! I am no longer babysitting my 2 cousins, so that should free up a little bit of time.
Dakota just got a really cool program called photo explosion, it is AMAZING!!! We have had a blast messing around with it!
Here are some pictures I made for my story:
Soryn, Evelyn and Arries
(Evelyn is my main character, and Arries is, well, me)
I have had alot of fun messing around with the pictures.
Well, mum is calling me for family time, so I'd better be going

P.S. I do NOT agree with Eragon, but when I saw that picture of Murtagh, I knew it was Soryn.

Legend of the Guardians
Well, my family and I finally went to see the Legends of the Guardians in theaters. It was amazing!!! It was very well done, and the graphics were absolutely stunning! The rumors that I heard about David Wenham and Hugo Weaving were true! David plays Digger and Hugo plays Grimble. The only thing I was disappointed in is the fact that it hardly resembles the books at all, they tried to cram 6 books into 1 1/2 hours, but still, I truly enjoyed it!
