Which then turned into a hope
Which then turned into a quiet thought
Which then turned into a quiet word
And then that word grew louder and louder
Until it was a battle cry
Have you ever experienced how sometimes you get an idea
and the more you try to ignore it, the bigger it gets? Until finally you have
to sit down with pen in hand and listen to it? Yeah, that just happened to me.
I came up with the idea for this story when I was 12
years old and my grandma asked me and my brother to write a short story for our
homeschool project. It was about 10 pages long, and very basic, no real plot (I
didn’t even know what that was back then), atrocious spelling, and excitement
was non-existent. For some unknown reason, I kept the story, stashed away and
forgotten. A few years later I was going through my desk, and found the story.
I read through it, and as I read, I thought, someday I could make a real story
out of this. A few months later I began to consider a plot for it, but I never
really did anything with it. And so the years went on, and the story lay
quietly in my desk, but it was not forgotten, it was always there at the back
of my mind.
Yesterday morning ideas suddenly began to explode out of
nowhere! I had not thought about writing, much less, THAT story, for about a
month! It was amazing!
Okay, I guess I will tell you a little about the story
;-)
It is set in Ireland in 1846-7, during the time of the
English occupation and the potato famine. The main character is a girl of 17, though she acts a lot older.
Her mother is recently dead, and her father is away is the big cities looking
for work. That leaves taking care of the other children, and keeping their home
from the eager hands of the English landlords, all up to her. She gets some
help from her childhood friend Aiden and her 12 year old brother. Everything
starts to go wrong when she finds an English soldier wounded in a ditch.
Here are some pictures I found for a few of the
characters

English Soldier
The moral of my tale is… when one of those pesky little
ideas keeps popping up, it is futile to resist.

I totally know how you feel. My sister and I both write, but she keeps herself to this one book she's been writing for a while. She doesn't entertain any other ideas. But I can't do that! An idea will pop into my mind and I just have to write it down.
